Introduction
In 2019 I am honored to be able to remember, recognize, and reflect on the history of my African American Lineage.
Though I am fairly new and young in relating to African American History and all the rich history it entails, I have the privilege of continually learning and sharing in this learning with other people.
This Black History Month lets look at Negro Spirituals, and be moved and uplifted by their forever living value for human souls, and especially the Black people from whence it poured forth.
Negro Spirituals Credibility
The story of the negro spirituals is closely linked to the History of African Americans, with its three milestones:
1865: the abolition of slavery
1925:the Black Renaissance
1985: the first Dr Martin Luther King’s Day.

Timeless Negro Spirituals
1) Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child,
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child,
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child,
A long way from home,
A long way from home.
(True believer.)
A long way from home,
A long way from home.
Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone,
Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone,
Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone,
Way up in the heav’nly land,
Way up in the heav’nly land.
(True believer.)
Way up in the heav’nly land,
Way up in the heav’nly land.
2) Steal Away
My Lord calls me;
He calls me by the thunder;
The trumpet sound within my soul,
I ain’t got long to stay here.
Green trees are bending;
Poor sinner stands a-trembling,
The trumpet sound within my soul,
I ain’t got long to stay here.
Tombstones are bursting;
Poor sinner stands a-trembling,
The trumpet sounds within my soul,
I ain’t got long to stay here.
Chorus
Steal away, steal away,
Steal away to Jesus!
Steal away, steal away home,
I ain’t got long to stay here.
3) Ev’ry Time I Feel The Spirit
Upon the mountain my Lord spoke,
Out his mouth came fire and smoke.
All around me looks so shine,
Ask my Lord if all was mine.
Jordan river chilly and cold,
Chills the body not the soul.
Chorus
Ev’ry time I feel the Spirit moving in my heart
I will pray.
Ev’ry time I feel the Spirit moving in my heart
I will pray.
4) Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel
He deliver’d Daniel from the lion’s den,
Jonah from the belly of the whale,
And the Hebrew children from the fiery furnace
And why not a every man.
I set my foot on the Gospel ship
And the ship it began to sail,
It landed me over on Canaan’s shore
And I’ll never come back any more.
Chorus
Didn’t my Lord deliver Daniel,
Deliver Daniel deliver Daniel.
Didn’t my Lord deliver Daniel,
And why not a every man?
5) I’ve Been In The Storm So Long
Oh let me tell my mother, how I come along,
Oh give me little time to pray,
And a cast my crown at Jesus feet,
Oh give me little time to pray.
I’ll go into heaven, and take my seat,
Oh give me little time to pray,
And a cast my crown at Jesus feet,
Oh give me little time to pray.
Chorus
I’ve been in the storm so long,
I’ve been in the storm so long, children,
I’ve been in the storm so long,
Oh give me little time to pray.I’ve Been In The Storm So Long
Oh let me tell my mother, how I come along,
Oh give me little time to pray,
And a cast my crown at Jesus feet,
Oh give me little time to pray.
I’ll go into heaven, and take my seat,
Oh give me little time to pray,
And a cast my crown at Jesus feet,
Oh give me little time to pray.
Chorus
I’ve been in the storm so long,
I’ve been in the storm so long, children,
I’ve been in the storm so long,
Oh give me little time to pray.
