Today I want to discuss the power of Mentorship. In the quote above the actress, show host, and entrepreneur Oprah Winfrey makes a powerful statement. She defines a mentor as someone who allows you to see hope inside yourself. In other words a mentor will influence you and empower you. Mentors are ordinary people who want others to believe in themselves. Mentors know the power of hope and therefore they know the power in mentorship!

A mentor is not a designated position or job. It is not a clique or club that allows only one person to do the best job- or serve the leading role. Mentors are human beings that have lived and gained experience, wisdom, and knowledge. Like any other person they know the pressure of pain, rejection, loneliness, and sadness. It is actually those attributes that lead them to pursue a life of giving back to others. People strive to help others only when they realize that one day they will need the same help. It takes humility, courage, and sacrifice to reach out to other people. Whether they are like you or very different. But the reward is a richer and more beautiful world.
